“Passion, color, and detail define me as an artist and designer. I am inspired by moments, people, music and culture. I’m constantly curious with a huge urge to give back and empower people and children to think bigger than themselves.”
My name is Bojana Ilic – aka BOJITT. I am Serbian born and raised. I am a multidisciplinary artist with a degree in clothing and textile design. After a successful 10-year career in the fashion industry in Europe, I moved to Chicago where I currently live with my son.
It has been 20 years of commitment and dedication building a good name for myself. During this time my work has helped clients develop and deliver their brands, visions, and passion through art and fashion.
When I left Belgrade, Serbia I had 20€ in my pocket and a huge dream. Everyone who has followed their dream knows that this is one bumpy lonely road. But this is all you got “yourself, and your dream”. I am doing this for my son because I want him to learn that he can be whatever he wants. All he has to do is to stay true to his dream.
What do you love the most about being an artist?
I love all about being an artist, I can’t imagine myself any different way. Being an artist is one “powerful tool” and It is an honor to “be it”. It is a mission; it’s a bridge between reality and dreams, it is a way to voice out the message, to empower others.
What type of artist would you describe yourself as?
“I am a peoples artist.” – I am an abstract artist and designer. My favorite type of work is commissioned work. Whether it is a small painting or a big mural, it always requires more than one person to complete it. Me on one side and you (the client) on the other. I am a strong believer in teamwork. When I paint or design a whole collection for your business I take responsibility to tell your story in a unique, bold and abstract way that will bring your vision to life.
My clients are ordinary people, celebrities, collectors, home owners, designers, restaurants, hotels, builders, product brands.
Where do you find your inspiration and how do you express it in your art?
There is one thing that inspires me constantly – “encouraging and setting people free”. As much as we speak out loud, especially women that we want to be free, most people don’t know what free means. My mission is to empower and inspire others to break the surface level of communication, to break free and dig deeper to who we really are. That’s provoking and inspiring!”
Is there a Goddess you identify yourself with?
If I have to it would definitely be Libertas – she is the Goddess of freedom and embodiment of liberty.
Any advice for Young artists looking to pursue their dream?
Your dream will always be there. Trust me, it will never leave you. It is yours! And it is up to you to make it be an angel or a devil. Both ways will take an equal amount of suffering and sacrificing – you chose.
