When you make your passion become your profession is the great result that you are doing things well. Always keep this in mind, the wings are yours and the sky belongs to nobody.

Enrique Cabrera

Enrique, tell us what inspired you to become a sculptor?

It is not a decision that at some point in my life I decided to make, it simply happened naturally since my childhood I developed in an artistic environment, mainly music and I think it is one of the main triggers of my great passion for what today it’s my life.

Of all your works, which do you consider the most relevant at the moment and why?

Each and every one of my projects are important. I always give my best and I believe they are all equally significant: however if I had to pick I would say: “The restoration of the bicentennial route in 2010 in Mexico. Being the first in history to be fortunate enough to have the opportunity and responsibility to give life to the heritage of my beautiful country. To me this is an honor and a great responsibility and I am proud to be the protagonist of it.

Also the sculpture of Naia in 2020 for being a part of great importance in the history of life in Prehispanic America.

When you create, what is the source of your inspiration?

The source of inspiration cannot be the same in all projects, there are many factors from the mood in which I find myself, the environment “which is very important”, the type of project and the client.

What I do, I do in a very organic way. I allow my work to flow and I always give the project a structure. This happens mostly with projects that I do for pleasure and without having them committed or sold in advance. Most of my work now is sold without being completed; always at a much higher price than I had in mind.

What has been the most difficult thing in your career as an artist and how did you overcome it?

Definitely being able to be recognized internationally and to see my work today in many different countries. Being able to captivate the total attention of the viewer, that is something extremely difficult.

All artists seek to be able to captivate, catch, make your piece speak and transmit a message that the viewer feels an attraction for your work. Beyond being able to overcome it today I have been able to achieve it and that makes me be more and more perfectionist in all my projects of whatever size they are.

If you could go back in time and change something in your life, what would it be?

I would not make any changes in the slightest. I feel extremely proud, happy and very satisfied with each and every one of my achievements as well as my failures.

Life is an experience full of adventures that sometimes are not what we expect but in the end it is always what it has to be. Everything in the end has a great purpose.

What are the projects at the moment that you are most passionate about and what are you doing to achieve them?

I am passionate about all my projects from the smallest to the largest and most transcendental – “I always leave all the best of me”. Something extremely important that I do is keep my word, be honest, responsible and follow each and every one of the principles that my parents instilled in me. That is the most important thing for me and immediately afterwards the harvest will take place in an organic and very prosperous way.

Could you give advice to all the people who would like to pursue a career as an artist?

If you can dream it, you can achieve it ! Only do what you are passionate about with emotion, conviction and dedication. Always seek perfection in what you develop, the result will be a great success. A very marked phrase that I have is this: “When you make your passion become your profession is the great result that you are doing things well. Always keep this in mind, the wings are yours and the sky belongs to nobody.
