40 Years of G-Class

After an audacious 40 years of coming close to perfection the quintessential Mercedes G-Class has reached new heights with the new entry-level G 350 model.

The unforeseen cross-country vehicle has an updated design, the first overhaul of the Geländewagen in four decades, possessing suitable modifications, although naturally the same aesthetic elements as its predecessor.

With an unbelievable cult following, they will immediately notice the difference of fluid edges, surely only visible to car enthusiasts and not for casual bystanders. Dubbed “The Best G-Wagen”, some of the changes of the body include wider roof pillars, the intakes in the lower fascia, and a slimmer stance for a less aggressive appearance.

There are now unobstructed views into the luxurious cabin with the new placement of the windshield wipers sitting lower than before and the gas pump being placed slightly higher for a comfortable reach — undoubtedly, practical changes from the redesign. Inside, it’s as illustrious as you would demand for a $100k vehicle. A massive entertainment centre which includes a dual screen infotainment system although the controls are fully operated in the centre console via the click wheel since there is no touch-screen set-up.

Mercedes Benz G 35O d – Stronger than ever

You pay for the privilege of these underpinnings which are even more impressive once the G 350 d is taken for a ride, you will appreciate a quieter 3.0 liter six-cylinder diesel engine with new emissions reduction installed right at the engine. Most notably, the immensely smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic gearbox manages exceptionally well with its 282bhp and a maximum torque of 600 Nm between 1,200-3,200 rpm, a spectacular feat for an entry-level G-Class. There is proportional distribution of the stacked torque — 40 percent to the front axle and  60 percent to the rear axle — ensuring maximum traction for the all-wheel drive. Few drivers will actually take advantage of the G-Wagen’s incomparable off-roading capabilities beyond the asphalt but you should take into account the new front axle design, a refined suspension and the ground clearance of 241 millimeters of the rear axle making the drive effortless for gritty situations. For the road, electrically operated leather seats with a three-zone climate control makes it a cozy ride. The new rigid axle guarantees one’s ease surpassing expectations from its once mechanically deficient handling.

Mercedes has impressed us all with an immaculate release of an entry-level G-Class vehicle with an updated 14 mpg (combined) reducing consumption and pulls strongly at a top speed of 124mph. With all that horsepower, you’re going to have to hold your horses, the G 350 d will not be available in North America granted it will be worth the wait.
