Inclusive is the new Exclusive! – By Patricia Rochester

Long are the days that fashion runways featured only thin models, that fashion was for pretty-skinny-perfect-girls. Now, fashion is finally made for all.

Fashion brands are finally listening and responding to the consumer and adapting the collections to the individual itself. No more limited sizes and tailoring, or the conservative standards of beauty. No more limitations on body shapes, race or gender!

Ready to wear brands and designer clothing now serve the “real” woman. Fashion is for all, anytime, anywhere.

Our culture has unrealistic beauty ideals and many women feel insecure about their appearance and convinced that their lives could be better if they were more beautiful. But what is the meaning of Beauty today? Beauty is body positivity and valuing our diversity as individuals, being happy and confident in a world obsessed with image.

Singer and designer Rihanna was a pioneer of this woman empowerment with her acclaimed Savage x Fenty lingerie show that featured women of all sizes, races, ethnicities, trans women and disabled women. “Every woman deserves to feel sexy” – she says.

Nike recently announced a new line of products specifically tailored for pregnant women and new mothers, which includes a nursing friendly sports bra.

The disability community has constantly had to adapt and modify, but not anymore. Many fashion brands are finally tailoring to this demographic too.

The catwalks today celebrate women from all over the world, of different races, sizes and beauty. The new fashion is Diverse, Inclusive and Positive. 

Inclusivity* [noun]: the quality of trying to include many different types of people and treat them all fairly and equally.
