Mariela Brito – Caresses

The sun is slowly caressing the world and with a greeting dismisses the mischievous moon that has been playing with the stars all night.

Mariela, in this modern time what is poetry?

Well for me, poetry is the language that I chose to describe life and to express emotions. Since I was a child it was hard for me to express myself, poetry is the magic that turned my thoughts into butterflies ready to fly. In poetry I found a beautiful way to express what I believe to be “true”.

What is the source of your inspiration when writing poetry?

The events of my life, nature, a landscape, music. All that can lead me to inspire, especially silence, I love silence, it connects me with my essence and with my stories.

Does your poetry represent who you are or who do you want to be?

My poetry represents entirely who I am. “Poetry is not who I am or what I will be.” Poetry is one of the tools that brings me to the present, that allows me to go deep and turn my darkness into the platform that leads me to conscious transformation and prompts me to want to be a better human being.

Have you ever had your heart “broken”?

Yes, and the worst thing that I did to myself!. I think that only oneself can break it. We idealize other people a lot, expecting things that many times they cannot give us or that we are not “ready” to receive. I believe that to live in love you have to be prepared, we need to unlearn and learn again. It’s a long road but you learn a lot about love, actually I think that is what we came to Earth to. Learn to love and love each other without breaking our hearts!

What is the part that you enjoy the most about writing?

Writing helps me to dust off my thoughts, it calms me down when I manage to capture in a way that is understood by the ideas that are constantly being created in my brain- Something I don’t always achieve.

What I enjoy most about writing is that it allows me to carefully organize what I want to communicate.

What is your creative process?

My current creative process begins with good meditation, I quiet my mind. I relax and allow creativity to take over and I surrender to the divine process of creation. We are creative beings and surrendering ourselves to that process allows us to let that cloistered energy flow in the material body.

Could you give some inspirational words for people who would like to embark on a path in poetry?

For me all kinds of artistic creation is a form of meditation and introspection; it opens us up and allows us to know and recognize ourselves. Poetry is linked to all creative work, so those who want to embark on poetry will be able to incorporate it into each activity they develop.
