From Talented Designers, New Collections, Extravagant Venues, Sponsors and VIP Events, This Year’s Lineup Is Bringing Heat to Miami

Miami Fashion Week. No introduction needed. Being one of the hottest events on the International Fashion Calendar, it arrives in Miami in the last week of May and takes place at the Ice Palace Film Studios. Miami is growing at a high-speed pace, and so its Fashion.

This year, the Tourism of Dominican Republic sponsored the event and brought many of their renowned designers. ‘The Experience’ – a package offered by the Miami fashion week organizers; allows you to tour the backstage, meet the designers, front row seating and even exclusive access to the VIP lounge. Highly recommended.

I’m sure you’ve heard the buzz about this event, influencers and of course Antonio Banderas. But here at CHIC we want to focus and congratulate the designers. They bring amounts of success to this event, inspire us with their beautiful collections and always exceed our expectations. Cheers to you!

RUNWAYS | DAY 1

RENE BY RR

Miami and its vibe has always inspired Rene Ruiz in his collections, and accentuate the beauty of women its his goal. That was certainly very well accomplished! The show kicks off with swimwear, followed by everyday casual chic looks, transitioning to the novelty gowns. The silhouettes are elegant and simple, lots of bias cut and metallic golden gowns that we would wear to a sunset party. The avant-garde fabric combinations were risqué and yet it worked beautifully.

ÁGATHA RUIZ DE LA PRADA

She always gets the party started and brings the fun to the runway. Relaxed tracksuits, micro mini skirts, Barbie shoes and the trendy biker shorts are paired with playful prints and lots of hearts. High ponytails 90s style was the look of the models that left the strut aside and danced on the runway instead. Pretty, Comfortable, Fun – this is Agatha’s girl.

RUNWAYS | DAY 2

DANIELA BATLLE

From Colombia, this talented designer is already a popular name at Miami FW. The S/S 2020 collection features tropical leaf prints and lots of balloon sleeves. Accessorizing the collection there are raffia handbags that suggests a picnic at the beach. The mood is relaxed and the highlight was the fringes on tops, skirts and dresses.

HERMINAS REEA

She is From Romania, with Greco-Armenian roots. The opening look it’s a black power suit. Women empowerment is reflected in this collection with lots of lace and crystals. We saw ultra sexy, powerful dresses and mini skirt suits while models strutted to electro pop music. She calls this collection ‘The Birds’, inspired by its powerful symbolism and spiritual tone.

VERO DIAZ

Veronica Diaz from Yucatan, Mexico is a Parsons Alumni. The DNA of the brand, as described by the designer, defines women empowerment, femininity and elegance. The silhouettes are loose and comfortable, with a romantic and nostalgic mood. Craftsmanship was at its best with flower embroideries. Sheer fabrics, whites and of course bridal looks took part in this collection.

RUNWAYS | DAY 3

DASH (DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE SENIOR HIGH) and MIAMI FASHION INSTITUTE. The go-to schools for fashion in Miami. High school and college graduates created their designs focusing on Sustainability. Very inspiring to see these young and talented fashion pioneers, setting the future of fashion in the right direction. Fashion landfill is a concerning topic in today’s world and these students created their collections from recycled fabrics and up-cycled outfits (tearing apart old and damaged clothes and making new ones from it).

GLORY ANG

Casual luxury it’s the signature style for this designer. Presenting maxi dresses with ruffles, powerful prints and kimonos, these are the characteristics of this Colombian designer. The looks were simple with lots of color, paired with headscarves. Beautiful bikini tops styled with long skirts, made easy for day to night looks.

FERNANDO ALBERTO

From Los Angeles and already admired in the fashion industry, Fernando has shown his collections in LAFW and NYFW. No doubt he brought the most unique fabrics to the runway. We see long skirts with leather jackets, ripped jeans with capes attached to tops, sexy leopard print dresses, chokers and sheers. The looks are an unusual and astonishing mix – he combines femininity with Sunset Strip rock star.

RUNWAYS | DAY 4 (designers from the Dominican Republic)

JENNY POLANCO

Polanco’s designs are sophisticated yet simple, classic and easy to wear. We were surprised by an all white collection, full of romance and timeless beauty. The shirts and tunics with golden buttons take us on a far trip to the classic French Riviera. Featuring special accessories such as headscarves, sculptural net and trendy sheer fabrics, this is a collection you want to fit in your suitcase for Summer in Cote D’Azur.

ARCADIO DÍAZ

When it comes to Guayaberas, it requires an acquired taste – either you love it or you hate it! That is until you come across a collection of Arcadio Diaz “The King of Guayaberas”. Diaz modernized the guayabera making it a fashion must have. The style is found in dresses, skirts, pants and available for all ages. The presented collection – ROMANCE – has a very colorful palette and flower prints, big earrings with Frida Kahlo and mens suits perfect for a wedding at the beach.

JACQUELINE THEN

Her new collection was inspired by the Tainos, the principal indigenous of the DR in the late 15th century. The looks are comfortable with a sense of ease. The swimwear is sexy and artistic, decorated with crystals. The highlights are the leotards and catsuits with powerful prints that reminds of Cirque du Soleil. Fringes are in most part of the collection; the dresses are comfortable and sexy, that will inspire you to go dancing.

GIANNINA AZAR

Azar undoubtedly closed the fashion week ‘at grand’. More than 70 looks. This runway was electrifying; every time a model would hit the runway it was a total surprise. Immeasurable variety in the dresses, styles and looks: Egyptian, knight, roaring 20s, jungle extravaganza, palm trees, seashells, African queen, monumental hats in so many colors… We admired prime craftsmanship in all designs featuring sheer and metallic fabrics, embroideries and stones.

Miami Fashion Week did it again! Surpassed everyone’s expectation and we can’t anticipate what they will bring us next year.
